APARTMENT BUILDING
The client requested a proposal for 6 apartments on an average sized plot capable of
occupying the dwellings, green areas, driveway, car parks, and circulations necessary
for this residential development.
The main purpose of the project was to take advantage of conventional materials (brick,
timber, concrete) within a simple layout to create an affordable budget apartment
building. We used in this case the standard brick veneer solution with partition walls in
blockwork and a reinforced concrete slab.
All these materials respond efficiently in terms of structural capacity and fire resistance,
qualities that are essential for these kinds of developments. The thermal and acoustic
insulation was considered to give the proposal a good livable capacity.
Our goal was to keep the design as simple as possible. The layout is repeated on both
levels to provide perfect alignment of the structural elements and avoids every kind of
construction complication.
This double-storey building offers three different typologies of apartments with very
efficient use of the available space, at a very affordable price in the market.
The external walls are slightly indented to give the volume a softer expression. This
consideration plus an unorthodox design of the windows gives the building a modern
appearance that is suitable to fit in almost any residential area in Melbourne.
