A PRIVATE COURTYARD
The simple geometry of this house responds to a clear requirement of the client, privacy
and enjoyment of the views. Located on a large plot of land, approximately 20,000 m²,
the residence is on top of the highest point of the topography and close to the access
road.
The simple juxtaposition of the car park and the residence form an intermedium space, a
courtyard, that filters the views and creates the entrance of the place. The long walls
were not enough to cover the whole front of the property, so the initial proposal included
a mass of orange trees at both sides of the residence. In this way, the blocks of
vegetation of around 4 metres in height and evergreen leaves complete the front façade
and define the other two sides of the entrance courtyard.
Between the car park and the dwelling, there is a space of circulation covered by a wide
floating concrete slab. This element finishes off at the entrance of the house, a hallway
5.5 meters high. This space is defined by panels of semi-transparent glass with
aluminium structure and contains an open stairway. During the night, the courtyard is lit
by lamps located under the slabs and from the porch. The glass screen at the front
becomes a big torch that filters the light from inside and denotes the access of the
residence.
At the first floor level, the layout is limited to a study, master bedroom, ensuite and
walking-in robe. The rest of the surface has been waterproofed and paved allowing
gatherings and space for contemplation of the big scenery in front.
