GENIUS LOCI
The concept of Genius Loci is related to the "spirit of a place". The way the landscape
and architecture find their best expression in blending.
The panels and structural elements of this small lodge were pre-built off site and then
assembled in its final location, a remote plot of land located in the middle of the
mountains and next to a torrential river.
The construction responds to this natural environment blocking the views from the dirt
road behind and is two meters higher than the ground floor level of the dwelling. On
the other side, it opens to the river's scenery using the shape of the roof to follow the
gradient of the terrain.
A cantilevered roof that projects over a decking area works as a natural extension of the
living room. The same effect happens with the small balcony next to the main bedroom.
Internally, a mezzanine that works as a second bedroom, is located in the void
generated at the highest point of the raked ceiling and visually domains over the living
area.
